The Vault

Overview

The Vault is a new service to allow producers and content owners to take full advantage of the opportunities of the “tapeless” and the multiple-platform broadcast market.
Your programme masters are probably your most important asset.
TSI digitally encode and securely store your master content.
Original master tapes are returned to you for deep archive storage or re-use.
Once your content is stored we can create copies in a multitude of formats to be distributed to your chosen clients and suppliers using our content delivery system.
Easy.

Ingest

Download a copy of our current ingest and coding services.

TSI can digitize your masters from any format from DVC, to HD.

We store a master copy on our servers that is an exact replication of the programme master, without any compression.

At this stage we can also enter in the master’s Metadata. This information is vital to broadcasters and other users in the new tapeless environments.

Transcoding and Viewing

Once ingested, we also create a low resolution Windows Media 9 file. The low-res file will be allocated for your company or your clients to browse the content remotely any time.

We can then make copies of your master material suitable for any platform or broadcaster, be it PAL, NTSC, transmission master for a broadcaster suitable for their server, clips for mobile operators or whole programmes for IPTV platforms. We will ensure that what is sent exactly meets their requirements.

Using our powerful transcoding engine we can transcode to and from any format available, and can write a bespoke transcode for clients with unique codecs.

Quality Control

With a level of service is up to our client TSI can offer clients the most suitable QC for the job at hand. As house standard, all source material is given a broadcast three point check – top middle and end to verify the tape is correctly labelled, timecode is accurate and the content adheres to broadcast specification suitable for digitisation. This is sufficient for most recently produced material. We then offer two additional services:

1) 100% manual checking in a broadcast QC room with edit ability, a written report of any anomalies is made - generally any simple problems are fixed by the operator.

2) 100% automated QC of completed files, using a system that not only looks for anomalies but verifies all aspects of the file. The automated report from this system is highly detailed technically but cannot spot content errors.

Format Editing

Different platforms and broadcasters require different versions of your programmes. This could be as simple as providing insertion points for commercials to making programmes considerably shorter and longer and changing the credits. Once ingested, any of these changes can be made to your programme masters without the need to go back to tape. This service can be handled remotely by us from you’re an EDL provided by the client. This is a relatively automated, low cost service designed for clients who sign up with TSI for their storage and distribution needs.

Tapeless Distribution

After transcoding, TSI can use its content distribution network to get your programmes quickly and inexpensively to your clients wherever they are in the world. Alternatively, we can lay-off onto portable media drives or onto tape and our traffic department will ensure reliable dispatch via courier to any point on the globe.

We already have close relationships with many of the IPTV platforms, broadcasters and mobile operators you are likely to be selling your programmes to, so we can guarantee a hassle free service.

Tape distribution

Once digitised, TSI offers a lower copying charge than any other similar facility as we only need one VT to make a copy. We can then dispatch your tapes anywhere in the world either using your courier or our own.

Content Storage

Our Enterprise Class storage arrays are built around the latest high capacity SATA disk drives. Every storage server has full Raid redundancy, dual power supplies and dual fibre channel controllers. All servers are also protected by a UPS system in the event of a power failure.
Once ingested clients have numerous storage options:

1) Online – this will allows to instant viewing of the file and immediate dispatch i on line of any programme material.

2) Near line – here your files are archived onto a server and any file can be retrieved within a matter of hours.

3) Offline – once ingested, data tapes containing your data are created and sent to secure storage out of town. All material can be retrieved and restored to our servers or copied onto video tape for dispatch. This process will take anything from 24-36 hours.

4) Mirrored storage – our servers offer a high degree of redundancy and are of enterprise quality. For peace of mind we are able to offer either a separately stored data tape or all of your material simulations available on a mirrored sever at a secure separate site.

Avid and Final Cut Pro

TSI can be used as a central storage place for all of your rushes. The data once digitized can simultaneously either be feed to your Post Production facility, or laid off onto drives for their use. Master material is stored at TSI until the programme has been completed, or indefinitely. This gives the production company the flexibility to pay only once for digitizing at a central hub, use in-house or external facilities without the cost of VTs. Finally always having digitized material to hand. How often have you paid for rushes to be laid off by your post company multiple times?

Library Sales

Once encoded along with Metadata, subject to your agreement, we can then make your library available for exploitation. Prospective clients can search your library for key images or shots. These can then be purchased on-line.

Please note, our terms and conditions of trade specify that all data stored for you is your asset not ours. You always retain intellectual rights. Any sales or use by third parties is only allowable by your instruction as specified in our terms and contractual arrangements.

This is a service yet to be implemented

Codec

Below are the standard codecs and transfers TSI can perform without prior warning. Any codec can be added to the TSI engine given 7 working days notice generally.

In addition to the above there is no limit to the amount of other information that can be stored with the master. Items such as stills, trailers, cast lists, contacts, EDLs, you name it.
